Warriors at Commonwealth

1st Commonwealth Sambo/Combat Sambo Championships
Dartford England
September 28th 2014

Commonwealth Sambo Association decided to organize their First ever Commonwealth Championships the day after the Fabulous Presidents Cup. This made perfect sense as many of the Commonwealth Countries were present

The most interesting part about this competition was the fact the standard was very high and no one country dominated the event and the audience was treated to some really exciting bouts.
The Warriors Grappling Academy based at The BSF Centre of Excellence East Street Sittingbourne had 3 medal winners in this unique international event

Jamie Debbie Danny

Our first medal winner was Long Time Judo and Sambo Player Debbie Jackson. Debbie started Judo when she was very young under one of the founders of the Young Judo Club Margret Clarke 4th Dan, she has represented GB in Judo and participated in the World Sambo Championships. Her finals was against Ng Ho Lam Hong Kong and she performed what most probably the best throw of the competition when she threw her opponent with a Total Victory, with a Hip Throw

Next was a repeat of the British Finals where Club members Danny Carrott v Jamie Marzetti both had made short shrift of their opponents and Jamie wanted revenge for his defeat in the finals of the British. As was expected this was a very tactical match going the full distance, Jamie lost by 1 point which he fervently thought was an incorrect score but the referee stood by his decision. As usual with a decision like this the debate will continue. Both lads have been Internationals in Judo, Sambo and Kurash, both have been British Champions in Judo and Sambo. Danny won a Gold in a World Cup Sambo once and Jamie won a Bronze in the World Kurash Championships

At present we have no one at the club doing Combat Sambo so would be interested in getting some players but all need a good grounding in Sambo. If you are interested in Sambo contact 07825 224940  IBFBCSA@Gmail.com http://www.sittingbourne.org/warriors_grappling_academy.htm

The British Sombo Federation like many other Commonwealth Countries lack financial support, we in GB are lucky to have the support of President Shestakov, FIAS and Russian Sponsor but they cannot continue to support us participating in International Events we need our Government to support us. It seems UKSPORT have forgotten their old Saying “SPORT FOR ALL” Now it is Olympic Sports who win medals. Sport in UK is now designed to promote what ever Government is in power rather then serve the people in making them healthy and fit.

FIAS TV is doing a great Job in promoting Sambo throughout the World you can watch on http://www.ustream.tv/channel/sambo-fias-org
